After untimely decease of famous legendary Tabala player of Nepal , Atul Prasad Gautam, appreciating his philosophy, motive, idea and his talent as per the wish of Atul Gautam to dedicate himself for classical music and spiritualism with noble intension of making human life truthful, family members of artist Gautam, social activists, musicians and his disciples established Atul Memorial Society in 2005.
Atul Memorial Society established in memory of artist Gautam kept enduring his desire through honors, awards, musical training, scholarship etc. Patron of the society and the wife of artist Gautam, Bandana Gautam (Sharma) and members of committee with all efforts to fulfill Atul's desire dedicated themselves to establish the Gurukul. In 2012 they were able to transform the Atul Memorial Society to Atul Memorial Gurukul completing all necessary legal procedure. The prime motive of this Gurukul is to give our children knowledge of Classical music, Spiritualism, Yoga culture along with modern education and make them civilized, well cultured and good citizen of Nepal. Tabala maestro Atul Prasad Gautam was born near Pashupatinath Temple, in the family of Guru Kavi Prasad Gautam who started HARERAM KIRTAN in Nepal in 1986 BS. Late Atul Gautam was not only good at Tabala, moreover, he was a complete musician. He received gold medal from Banaras Hindu University for the subject Tabala and served in Tribhuvan University as Tabala Teacher. As a social worker, he established Narayan Music Foundation in 1991. From this institution, he started a regular performances and classical music competitions. Similarly, in partnership with other musicians he started Kirateshwor Sangitashram in 1992, Pashupati Musical Art Foundation in 1996 and also established very famous musical group "Sukarma". He started the tradition of honoring personalities having valuable contribution towards classical music and he himself started scholarship for young musical talents with motive of handing over the heritage of classical music to young generation.
